DIY Halloween Costumes

Woah is it Halloween already? Time is flying by, but I am super excited because I get to be a kid all over again. Halloween is the one time that I, as an adult, am able to dress in a disguise and pretend to be someone or something. How cool is that? Can you tell that the kid in me is jumping up and down? My husband and I of course love to dress up in costumes that compliment each other and this year will be no different. Now we have our little lady to join in on the family fun. I DIY our costumes every year because 1. I refuse to spend so much money on something that I will be wearing only once in my life....EVER! and 2. It makes the costume so unique. No one will look like you. I begin planning our costumes in early September. This way I can prepare and avoid spending too much money because I am rushing. This year we have thrown around quite a few ideas and it is making it so hard to narrow down so I have decided to give you a few ideas that we have. Hop on over to The Little Style File and see my post. Be sure to leave a comment with some ideas of your own.

DIY Envelope Pillow

I've been a busy little bee since I received this brand new Brother sewing machine that took me 3 weeks to open due to a very bad case of procrastination. But once I got it open no one has been able to stop me. I am learning so much and enjoying teaching myself. Nothing like the honor to say I did it. I have already made Baby R a pair of pants, a circle skirt, and now I am working on a peplum top for her. I will post pictures soon. I am now venturing over to decor. I really am into revamping my house so I have decided that I will DIY pretty much everything, especially since I can sew now. So my first task are these adorable star printed pillows for my couch.

 I totally adore the gold stars on the fabric. The fabric itself was a bit rough and stiff, but with a run through the wash and some fabric softener, it softened right up.

With me being a beginner I decided to go with more of an easy envelope pillow for these. I got the instructions from here. She made it so plain and simple and within 30 minutes I had these beautiful pillows to place on my couch.

Sew Journal: My 1st Sewing Machine

OMG! OMG! OMG! My hubby is the greatest. He bought me a sewing machine (insert scream here). I know right? I have been wanting a sewing machine since forever. I had been hinting to him since my birthday back in March, I guess he finally got the hint (it only took 5 months) lol. He bought me a Brother CS6000i, top notch here. I am so anxious to use it, but sine I am a bit of a penny pincher I want to make sure I know what I am doing so I won't waste material or time. So it has been sitting in the box for 3 weeks now. I'm dusting it off soon and I will be making my first project.

Let's get into the specs of the machine. It has:

*        60 built in stitches
*        7 styles of 1-step auto-size buttonholes
*        quilting table
*        hard cover

It comes with:

*        Buttonhole Foot
*        Overcasting Foot
*        Monogramming Foot
*        Zipper Foot
*        Button Fitting Foot
*        Bobbins (3)
*        Eyelet Punch
*        Needle Set
*        Seam Ripper
*        Cleaning Brush
*        Wide Table
*        Screwdriver
*        Spool Caps (3)

The price for this bad boy is $139.97. I know what you all must be thinking, I'm crazy for getting such an expensive machine as a beginner. I feel that if I'm going to have it for a while then it must do all that I need and more. Plus I know I'm a penny pincher and all, but I do believe in quality over quantity when it comes to certain items and a sewing machine is one. I cannot wait to finally use it and see all it has to offer. I will be back with a review soon. Let me break it in first.

What was your first sewing machine?

Pinspiration: I Heart Crafting

My name is Bri and I am a Craft-a-holic. It all started when I was a young girl living in the south. I would go to my grandmother's house and watch her make these elaborate bows and wreaths. It was the most amazing thing to watch. Seeing her two hands twist and turn this ribbon into a sight to behold was so magical to me. I enjoyed going to her house for Christmas because the decor was amazing. I always asked questions of how she did it, but I could never get the hang of bow making. I'm sad that I didn't because now she has really bad arthritis that left her fingers stiff, which won't allow her to twist and turn the ribbon like she used to. Maybe she can walk me through it by telling me. Hmmm, we'll see.

I said all of this to say crafting is in my blood and it is one addiction that I refuse to give up or be sorry for. I'm a Craft-a-Holic and I'm proud to be one. I was browsing Pinterest for my weekly Pinspiration posts and I came across these really cool quotes. I hope you enjoy as much as I did.

5 Back to School Teacher Gift Ideas

     All teachers are a God-send (well not all, some turned out to be creeps). They take our children under their wings each year and help us to mold them into inventors, doctors, athletes, etc. They give their time without hesitation to fill our little one's heads with knowledge. But most of all they give us a break from parenthood for 7-8 hours a day. THANK YOU TEACHERS!!!!

     I said all of this to say teachers need to be appreciated as well. I have so many ideas rambling in my head about what I plan to do for my little chica's teachers and she's not even of age yet. Some of you may have school age children who will be going back to school soon so send them back to school with a little appreciation gift for their new teacher and start them off right. Pinterest has a ton of back to school gift ideas. But I have put together 5 Back to School teacher appreciation gifts to maybe inspire you and get your creative juices flowing.
